Unconditional - Sculpture by Amy Short

Gilberti Fine Art Gallery is pleased to offer a unique exhibition featuring sculptor Amy Short on October 4, on view until November 30, 2017.

Unconditonal features over 20 sculptural works by Short, including her latest multimedia sculptures, some of her popular animals and one of a kind sculptural jewelry. The public is invited to the opening artist's reception on October 6, 6-8pm to meet the artist, view her new work and enjoy music by local musician, James Tobin.

Unconditional is an exhibit of new figurative sculptures showing Amy's whimsical style with traditional patina finishes. Drawing from her childhood experiences, travel, love, self esteem and acceptance, these thoughtful women provoke a general feeling of love, exploration and freedom.

Included in the show is a multimedia sculpture recently exhibited at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, PA. It is a portrait of Anne Boleyn, mother of Queen Elizabeth I, Henry VIII's second wife and Queen of England until he had her beheaded. This piece is unusual in that the viewer can interact with her and make her say a couple of phrases by way of speech bubbles. It is a fun piece showing a strong woman trying to break the glass ceiling; 500 years later women are still trying to do the same.

Short is a sculptor who works primarily in terracotta. She earned a degree in French and Fine Art with a concentration in Sculpture from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. After studying French for a year in Neuchatel, Switzerland, she moved to Paris, where she apprenticed under Italian artist, Gerardo Dicrola. Upon returning to the US, Amy continued to pursue her art professionally. Married with three children, Short spends her days in her studio creating. She is an active member of Pittsburgh's Society of Sculptors, West Hills Art League and Cranberry Artist's Network. She also teaches sculpture at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.
